In legal cases attorneys will refer to past cases that tested elements of or even the complete arguments of previous cases.......I assume that is not considered theft of IP yet for the attorney who fought the first case of it's kinds and had nothing else to refer to, that Attorney had to be "Original" and "Creative" in order to win their case. The average attorney (even the above average attorney) cannot possibly read every case that relates to their case or remember every winning argument but AI can and will. As a person who makes music as a hobby, I listen to lots of other music but when I make music I do not consciously set out to make something that sounds like an existing commercial work although I know what sort of elements in my music would make it commercially acceptable. My knowledge of what is "commercially acceptable" is in effect referencing other peoples work that I have heard but not memorised in the same way that playing an original composition in a particular genre of music is not ripping off every existing song in that genre. I wholly accept that if song lyrics are a verbatim copy, then copyright has been infringed as lyrics are extremely specific. I wholly accept that melody lines with specific note lengths are copyright regardless of what key they are played and regardless of what instrument they are played on. I do not accept however that lyrics that are conceptually similar but sung with a different syncopation or melody are a copyright infringement and I extend this to instrument sounds or arrangement......let me explain......The Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls is a comparatively simple synth pop track without the lyrics......if I take all the musical sounds (not samples) but sounds.....similar drum sounds, similar synth sounds and rearrange the rhythm chords and melodies I can still end up with a piece of music that is original and not a copy yet sounds very similar....and would maybe make the listener think they are listening to a remix............I do not accept that "Sonic Similarity" is the same as "Copyright". If......IF.......putting in the lyrics of whatever existing commercial song into an AI is really either generating a song with the verbatim same lyrics as the original song or generating a song with different lyrics but to the same melody and sounds as the original song then I would agree that copyright has been infringed. If the melodies are different and the lyrics are different but it all sounds similar........that to me is like trying to claim copyright on the Hawaiian Pizza. I wholly understand the sampling debate (a digital recording of somebody else's work regardless of how you manipulate it) and there could be sampling involved in these AI generators but if you can't prove the source of the audio but can only complain that it is "Sonically Similar" then are the record companies try to claim copyright on the audio spectrum and/or musical genre?

Not sure anyone will hear this my piece on this lawsuit seems so lost in views... But none the less I want to say it... There is not one actual artist getting paid from any of these companies that did not grow up being instructed and learning to play copyrighted material. This is completely a frivolous lawsuit generated to try and stop competition while maintaining their niche in the music industry and shutting out any creativity that they can not get paid for. If they were serious about doing this lawsuit on behalf of their artists, they would be paying them like they deserve to be paid for their original content, if there is anything that resembles that left in the music industry. Lord knows the movie industry needs some fresh material too... Really though do we need to task a judge to say what can and can't be taught to a computer. Teach it copyright laws and wow problem solved huh??? Sorry this topic triggers me cause I am not one of those people who just clicks okay to get to the juicy creating part. I am also not one of the people who will generate a song using someone else's lyric. Though to be fair I have tested each of the ai's lyric writing abilities as well as pitting them against chat gpt and CoPilot. Don't go trying to take down a company because someone has found a way to misuse it. Instead go after the people who are misusing it. And only if you can prove that it was an intentional feat, because I know alot of artists who use sounds and bass lines from other groups as well as sampling entire beats for their lyrics from other groups or bands... I hope the judge can clearly see what kind of a piece of crap case this is and does not give in to being part of this corporate bullying.

Artists still don't understand that AI isn't copying or mixing other artists' work. Look at how AI beat the best human at Go - a game so complex it's impossible to compute all possible outcomes. It won with moves humanity had never seen before. This is just the beginning. It started with games, but soon AI will surpass human creativity in all areas. Anyone who thinks this will stop is being silly. The future is here, and it's AI.

They all suck ... a racket for micro pennies. Two of my records were pulled from Spotify through cdbaby. Because they claim fraudulent spins. I hired someone promo to promote my music. I got 400K streams . Cdbaby paid me $40 bucks. Luckily I still like playing live and writing. The streaming is a waste of money. You will never make enough to fill your gas tank for your next gig. Keep fun strumming and quick picking. Alot more fun.

The first step towards bankruptcy is to file a lawsuit against a competitor. Record labels will disappear very soon; that’s why they initiated the lawsuit, to publicize Udio and Suno and thus more easily implement AI in the music industry, especially for listeners.

I think you should be more concerned that AI will replace lawyers as well, as judicial systems will use automated procedures with artificial intelligence. There will be multidisciplinary "lawyer" agents who will dispense justice. So while you're distracted by leisure and sleep, your career and everything you have studied will become obsolete in the legal system when AI is implemented, in 2025.

I use both systems in my creative process and focus exclusively on instrumentals. I cite individual instrument brands to create the music. I believe this doesn’t impact the originality of my work, as it is generated solely from the software’s ability to learn from its training data and produce completely new material.

if you look at Swift Vs. Rodrigo, her song barely took a half a chord progression and the court found for Swift, because they also used the same elements of production thus "genre" so if you want to do the court precedent dance there is one time where the answer is yes.

Record deals are the only vehicle for huge stardom. But it's like saying an Agent is the only vehicle for pro athletes to get contracts. You can DIY and all that and do good enough. But for that magic you've got to kiss the frogs and the record companies think the same way you do. Put yourself in their shoes or better yet, meet one in person. Puts the whole thing in perspective. Get a lawyer like is recommended here. If you don't like their advice get another, you'll learn something either way
